ONE BILLION RISING 2021: RISING GARDENS

Since its first launch in 2012, One Billion Rising Campaign has maintained as one of the biggest mass action in human history. And this year, 2021, Capiz State University Dumarao Satellite College held its program as support to the campaign at Miriam Santiago Hall. The event was spearheaded by the Office of Gender and Development of the said institution.

The campaign is a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet are and wilk be beaten or raped during her lifetime. Now, putting into consideration that the current global population is at 7 billion, the number sums up to more than one billion women and girls that are at risk of discrimination and violence.

In words of the organizers regarding this year's theme, "Rising Gardens are a defiant creative call for revival, restoration and transformation. They are, in many ways, a compassionate call for justice because one of the greatest injustices of our time has been the destruction and eradication of Mother Earth, parallel to the ongoing and escalating gender-based violence."

The event was participated by the faculty and staff, and students from the four departments of Capiz State University Dumarao Satellite College.

Due to the ongoing health protocols in response to the pandemic, social distancing was strictly implemented before, during and after the program.
