CAPIZ STATE UNIVERSITY, DUMARAO SATELLITE COLLEGE JOINS 2020 NATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH CELEBRATION
by: Renalyn Cabillete
“Juana, desisyon mo ay mahalaga sa kinabukasan ng bawat isa, ikaw na Juana.” Simply means that women portray the most important roles in our society, and that they are a part of it, too. Every March is a month allotted for people to give emphasis that women also has a right for everything. They should be respected regardless of social status, race, religion, etc., and that men and women must be given equal opportunities.
“We Make Change Work for Women” is the theme for the 2020 Women’s Month Celebration. The event was headed by Mrs. Elna Velarde, GAD Chairman, and attended and participated by the faculty and staff of CapSU Dumarao Satellite College together with the students from the 4 different College Departments.
Just like any other Women’s Month Celebration in the past years, the event started with a foot caravan from Dumarao Public Market to Miriam Santiago Hall, and was followed by a Zumba Dance led by the CDPA Officers and members.
Mrs. Phoebe L. Gagula, guest speaker, talked about the laws protecting women in the Philippines, including laws such as Republic Act 6725 (an act that strengthens the prohibition on discrimination against women), Republic Act 7192 (an act promoting the integration of women as full and equal partners of men in development and national building), and Republic Act 9710 (Magna Carta of Women).
The program concluded after Mrs. Mary Joy Silvino, Student Association and Activities Coordinator, gave her closing remarks.
